Two Poles For Helio

Helio Castroneves grabs a second pole win for Sunday. The Toyota Pro-Celebrity Race meets a rough patch. And the crowd roared!

Without a doubt, day two of the 42nd Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is one to remember for many reasons.

IndyCar Practice and Qualifying

Helio Catroneves claimed his second Pole victory of the 2016 IndyCar season. Considering this is race three, the pattern seems to be set. Two weeks ago, Helio was forced to pit to change a tire after hitting debris on the track at PIR.

Today in qualifying, Scott Dixon 'rubbed' a wall during early practice, but was able to qualify second next to Helio. The remaining Fast Six are Simon Pagenaud, Tony Kanaan, Juan Pablo Montoya, and Will Power.

Of the three rookie drivers, Conor Daly was able to qualify at lucky 13, with Alexander Rossi at 16th, and Max Chilton at 19th. Conor Daly was able to take the lead in St. Petersburg for fifteen laps. Who says a rookie can't get in front? Good luck to them all tomorrow!

Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race

This being the last year of running at The Beach, and having a field of nothing but previous winners, the mood was extremely competitive. But when Sean Patrick Flanery collided with Brett Davern and Bob Carter, no one expected a second accident.

While safety crews worked to remove Bob Carter's damaged car under a yellow flag, Flanery came around the corner and rear ended the car. Fortunately, no one was injured, but a black flag was called which stopped the race.

Under green for the last laps of the ten lap event, Alfonso Ribeiro came away with the win. Followed by 'Mad Max' Papis, and Rod Millen.

Sunday

Race fans can look forward to the 42nd Annual Toyota Grand Prix Verizon IndyCar Series, the Pirelli World Challenge, and Stadium Super Trucks. Three great race events, one legendary track.
