What Is Formula Drift?

Formula Drift is full throttle racing into a tight turn at high speed and burning your rubber to get through it.

Yes, there is some slowing down, but not to the extent that you maintain traction on all four wheels. The idea is to slingshot around the turn burning rubber to keep your speed up around the turn, and accelerate back to top speed in less time. The race is also judges on execution and style, not who crosses the line first.

It is not for the timid, and requires much more finesse to maintain control of a 600hp power plant on 2,200lbs from getting out of control. The amount of force generated around a turn is extreme, and one wrong mis-calculation will send you into another car, the wall, or tumbling down the track.

Drift racing has come a long way from Japan and the winding canyon roads of America in the last 15 years. I remember back in the late 1980's, we called it slalom racing out in Tajunga Canyon and other two lane not-so-legal or safe areas. But the last few years has seen a surge of popularity all over the world, and is now a mainstream racing event.

The event begins Friday April 4th and Ends Saturday April 5th. Gates open at 10am both days, and very few tickets remain. Get there early for best ticket options still available, or check on line at http://www.formulad.com/schedule/tickets/ .
