You hear about it all the time, or it happens to you. You come home from work or a quick trip to the market and someone has broken into your home.
But what do you do when you see someone walking down the alley with YOUR possessions? The knee-jerk reaction is to of course get your things back. But all too often we hear about how someone tried to defend their property, and were seriously injured or killed in the process. Or maybe too much force was used in subduing the suspect, and the next thing you know YOU are on trial.
Today, Rav Holly of Rav Media Group had gone out to walk his dog when he came face to face with someone who would later allegedly burglarize his home and business near Los Alamitos Beach in Long Beach today. He originally noticed the suspect allegedly looking into the truck of a landscaper who was working nearby. Mr. Holly went to ask the landscaper if that was his truck, and the suspect passed by the two as they approached. The suspect left and they each went their respective ways.
Upon his return, he encounter the same individual again. This time the suspect was allegedly coming out of his home with his camera bag and laptop. He quickly dropped the items and Mr. Holly subdued him using a reverse choke hold and forcing him down to the ground.
In the meantime, he was joined by his friend Daniel MacSween, who took photos of the two as they waited for members of Long beach Police and Fire Department to arrive, give aid and take the suspect into custody.
Once law enforcement officers were able to take over, they discovered the allegeded suspect had been carrying what appeared to be a loaded 9mm handgun in his front pocket. The suspect was also complaining of minor injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for assessment. Booking information of the suspect is not know at this time, but the suspect has been seen in the area repeatedly by many residents in the area, including myself.
The suspect was also allegedly carrying three cel phones and many other items believed to have been stolen recently. If you live in the area of Shoreline and Los Alamitos, you may want to contact Long Beach Police Department to see of your property has been recovered.
It should also be noted that taking action like this can, and does often lead to you or others being injured or killed. This is one of a very few instances with the suspect in custody, and no one being seriously injured.
But today, John Q. Public 1, Burglar 0, with a 15-20 year conversion for carrying a loaded concealed weapon. It is a GOOD day!
