Woman Barricaded In Car Incites Police Response In Long Beach

An armed woman expressing suicidal ideation and holed up inside a vehicle in Long Beach surrendered to police Saturday.

LONG BEACH, CA — An armed woman expressing suicidal ideation and holed up inside a vehicle in Long Beach surrendered to police without incident, authorities said Sunday.

Officers were dispatched at 10:35 p.m. Saturday to the 700 block of East Wardlow Road, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

"Officers worked to de-escalate the situation, the Mental Evaluation Team, a hostage negotiator, and K-9 resources responded to the scene," according to a police statement. "After approximately one hour, the woman safely surrendered."

Paramedics transported the woman to a hospital.

It was not immediately known if she was injured prior to the arrival of police. The nature and extent of her injuries were not immediately known. The investigation was ongoing.
