Woman Dies Days After Being Hit In Long Beach Crosswalk

LONG BEACH, CA — A woman died Sunday from injuries she suffered after being struck by a pickup truck while walking in a Long Beach crosswalk Friday night, authorities said.

Long Beach police officers responded at about 8:21 p.m. Friday to Alamitos Avenue and 10th Street following reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

A preliminary investigation found that a Toyota Tundra was making a left turn from 10th Street onto northbound Alamitos Avenue when it struck the woman, who was walking west in the north crosswalk of 10th Street, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel treated the woman at the scene before taking her to a hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police. Speed and impaired driving are not believed to have contributed to the collision.

Police were notified Sunday that the woman had died from her injuries. Her identity was being withheld pending notification of her next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
