2nd United Flight Forced To Make Emergency Landing In CA

For the second day in a row, a plane leaving San Francisco was forced to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A mechanical problem forced a United Airlines plane out of San Francisco to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles Friday a day after another United plane did the same thing due to a wheel falling off the plane.

United Flight 821, an Airbus A320, landed safely at about 4:30 p.m. at LAX. Los Angeles Fire Department crews had gone on emergency standby at the airport as the plane approached, and they met the plane when it landed.

The pilot had reported hydraulic failure on the plane bound for Mexico City. After landing, the plane had to be towed to a terminal.

On Thursday, a United Airlines plane lost a tire while taking off in San Francisco and made a safe emergency landing at LAX. Video posted online showed United Flight 35 taking off in San Francisco, and the wheel can be seen falling away from the Boeing 777-200. Some parked cars were damaged by the falling tire.

No injuries were reported.

According to ABC7 News, this is the fourth troubling incident involving a United jet this week. The outlet reported that a plane skidded off a runway in Houston Friday, and on Monday, flames shot from the engine of a plane as it flew over Texas.

The FAA is investigating all of the incidents.
