4 Trapped In Storm Drain In Lakewood

Firefighters are working to free four people trapped in a storm drain as storm runoff rages through the county's drainage system.

LAKEWOOD, CA — Four people are trapped in a storm drain in the Lakewood area, and crews are frantically working to free them.

Firefighters were called to the 6700 block of East Carson Street late this morning, according to the Long Beach Fire Department, which was assisting county fire units.

Shortly before noon, the LBFD reported that rescuers had made voice contact with one person, described only as a male, and a two-person "confined space rescue team" was being sent into the drain to free him.
