605 Freeway To Undergo 55-Hour Lane Reductions This Weekend

Drivers who use the 605 Freeway should prepare for significant delays this weekend as Caltrans carries out a 55-hour paving operation in Pico Rivera.

Lane reductions and ramp closures will begin Friday evening between Peck Road and Rose Hills Road as crews replace concrete pavement as part of the Super 605 Freeway Enhancement Project.

The 605 Freeway will be reduced to a single southbound lane from 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday before reopening to two lanes through most of the weekend. The freeway will again be reduced to one lane from 11 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday, when all southbound lanes are scheduled to reopen.

Two ramps will also be closed throughout the weekend. The southbound Rose Hills Road on- and off-ramps, along with the southbound Peck Road on-ramp to the 605, will close from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday.

Caltrans is urging motorists to avoid the area if possible and use alternate routes, including the 110 Freeway, the 710 Freeway and State Route 57.

Residents and businesses near the work zone may experience noise, vibration and dust Friday night as crews demolish existing concrete pavement ahead of the paving operation.

The work is part of Caltrans' Super 605 Freeway Enhancement Project, a $260 million effort to rehabilitate the 605 between Long Beach and the San Gabriel Valley. The project is funded with $238 million from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and more than $20.5 million from California's Senate Bill 1 transportation program.

Caltrans said additional 55-hour weekend lane reductions are planned through 2026 as work continues along the corridor.
