Actor Robert Leckington Brings His Talent As A Drummer To Set
Drummer & actor exemplifies the art of storytelling, and understands the importance of merging business & art to have success as an actor.
Robert Leckington is best known for his role as the drummer who appeared on Gotham, and is seeking additional opportunities where he can bring his talent as a drummer to the big screen. During a recent interview, Leckington discussed his role as a musician and how that correlated with essentials in acting, “As a musician, I feel that my timing is extremely important, I feel this translates to other art forms such as acting, and definitely in comedic roles too, for all roles timing is important. If you time something just right, you can get “the laugh,” “convey the message,” and evoke emotion and presence.” According to Leckington, “acting is an art form of exploration for me. To me, if I feel that I am accurately portraying a character, then it can be conveyed authentically for the audience, in a way where all can connect and be present.”
Robert Leckington and his filmmaker, Scott Goldberg from Long Island have co-produce on various projects. Leckington states, “Last year around this time, Scott and I filmed a scene at a grocery store in Greenport, Long Island. This one actually is one that an acting coach had written for me years ago. I had penned in a few things to round out the scene since the original was a bit solidified in one particular direction. I gave it the title, “5 Minutes Alone.” Continuing, “ I have been writing on a full screenplay entitled, “Shadows at Midnight.” The most important thing I have learned as an actor and a musician and am still learning how to do is to “be in the moment.” That has value for all involved in the production process. “Of course, when you’re in the scene as a principal actor, you are the focus, yet still background actors can help round out the scene, so I don’t think anyone should underestimate their importance as a background actor, and it can lead to bigger roles for the actor, concludes Leckington.”
As they say there are no small parts!
Leckington shared that he hopes to continue producing new projects, in addition to writing and producing a screenplay, through his company, “Extremely Loud Media.” Leckington formed this company to produce and develop his content, and eventually plans to offer multi-media services for other talented people and companies.
Leckington states, “When it comes to my drum skills, I have always heard that I have a very good sense of meter and time. When I auditioned for the role on the television show Gotham, I showed them a little more than I think they needed. I booked the job, showed my passion regarding my skills, and I booked the role. “The plan is to do this many times in the future for other great productions.”
Goals for Leckington as an actor include more experience, more roles, more roles as a drummer, and of course more roles as an actor, to become a co-star, “where I can be working steadily, to be nationally recognized for the work that I have done as an actor so that I can utilize this for the greater good, which extends beyond myself. Concluding, “I am an advocate for the Misophonia organization, and support many children’s charities. According to Leckington, “Misophonia is a relatively new diagnosed brain disorder. Currently, there is no cure for it, and most doctors hardly know anything about it. There is a documentary about it on Netflix, or even on Amazon Prime called, "Quiet Please.” I am also a supporter and advocate for Autismspeaks.org, St. Judes, Make A Wish Foundation, and I love “Save The Music Foundation.” Robert Leckington's website is www.robertleckington.com.
