⏰ Daylight Saving Time Poll! 🤔
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, dueling studies point to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 65% don’t like daylight saving time, while 34.1% do. Only 0.8% don’t care one way or the other.
📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
- On Tuesday afternoon, right around 2 p.m., a “shirtless man” carjacked a driver near Woodman Avenue and Sherman Way. The vehicle he took had a 2-month-old baby inside. The child was found — alive and well — in the abandoned car at Woodman Avenue and Saticoy Street. Police arrested a suspect “near a set of train tracks.” (KTLA, NBC)
- Ladies, watch out if you’re anywhere near the UCLA campus parking structures in the 700 block of Gayley Avenue and in the 300 block of Charles E. Young Drive North. On Sunday, a man reportedly robbed three women and attempted to kidnap at least one of them. The suspect is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a slim build, has dark hair and is anywhere between 25 and 40 years old. (Patch, ABC)
- The 7-Eleven on the 3700 block of Mission Road was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday morning around 3 a.m. The crooks assaulted a man and stole an ATM. Apparently, stealing ATMs is now a thing; last month, one was stolen from a Huntington Beach barbershop. (KTLA, yahoo!news)
- The Airliner at 2419 North Broadway will close for good on February 24. After almost 100 years in business, the owners determined it's time to “say goodbye to this iteration.” So . . . does this mean that The Airliner will resurrect like the proverbial phoenix in another iteration? You can find out by visiting the establishment before its closing date and pumping the staff for information. (The Airliner)
- Plant-based poached eggs? Yes, please! Billed as the “world’s first,” Israel-based company Yo! Egg became a source for this dish for a few local restaurants. Try them “served in eggs Benedict at Real Food Daily, Coyote Grill and Flore Vegan and on avocado toast at Junkyard Dog and Swingers Diner, among others.” This information hit the news Tuesday; if you’ve tried it, let us know!
