Akash OP Aurora On 3 Ways To Develop A Positive Attitude

Having a positive attitude is essential for both your personal and professional life. Akash Aurora gives tips on how you can achieve it.

The chances are that you know someone who is always cheerful and upbeat no matter what is going on around them. You may think they have a better life than everyone else or don't encounter the same obstacles, problems, or challenges that you do, which is why they are so cheerful all the time.

The truth is, however, that attitude is a choice and it's often the people with the best viewpoint have the best outlook on life. In many cases, their positive outlook tends to usher in more positive outcomes. Like so many other things in life, having a positive attitude is actually a discipline that must be built. Here are three ways that you can develop the outlook you want in life.

1. Stop Negative Thoughts In Their Tracks

Your attitude is primarily determined by your thoughts or the way you look at things. Modern psychology often refers to this as framing, but you may have heard of it as the "glass is half full or half empty" question. Whenever something happens, we tend to think of it as either "good" or "bad," when in truth it is neither.

Let's look at a situation in which you were fired. Being let go means that you have more time to spend with your friends, family, and loved ones. You may also think of it in the sense that a new opportunity is just around the corner, one that you would enjoy more. If you look at it in terms of a "glass empty" perspective you will only focus on the negatives; you would beat yourself up over the situation and compare yourself to others in your life that you deem in a successful job. It all depends on how you look at it or think about it. The moment you have a negative outlook, think of the positives of your life. Don't dwell on the past.

2. Eat Well, Sleep Well And Exercise Often

Eating, sleeping, and exercising can all impact your outlook on life. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins, which are powerful "feel-good" neurotransmitters. Working out also has a powerful impact on sleep, as does the way you eat. When your diet is poor, or if you are always dieting, it can rob you of the nutritional benefits of a healthy diet. If you're irritable all the time, your eating, sleeping, or exercise habits may be the cause.

3. Do Something Nice For Someone Else

If you want an immediate outlook boost, try being kind to someone for no reason. Buy your coworker a coffee anytime you like or cook for your friend. Just being friendly to someone will bring about a positive benefit. Their happiness will elevate your own. If you're having a bad day, one of the best ways to change it is to make someone else's day a little brighter.
