LOS ANGELES, CA — The state attorney general this week warned residents about counterfeit tickets and scams tied to the 2028 Summer Olympics, urging consumers to use caution when buying tickets online.

In a consumer alert, California Attorney General Rob Bonta said heightened demand for the games could make Californians targets for fraudulent sellers and deceptive offers.

“Californians are excited to welcome the world to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028,” Bonta said. “Today, I remind Californians to be cautious around Olympic ticket sales, purchase only from authorized vendors, and protect their personal information.”

The attorney general’s office offered the following tips:

  • Buy tickets only from official or authorized sellers.
  • Check refund and authenticity guarantees on resale tickets.
  • Don’t share sensitive personal or financial information.
  • Verify website security (look for “https://” and a padlock icon).
  • Research sellers for reviews or prior complaints.
  • Use credit cards; avoid wire transfers, gift cards, crypto and payment apps like Zelle or Venmo.
  • Be skeptical of unusually low-priced tickets.
  • Consumers who believe they have been targeted or victimized by a scam can file a complaint with the state and are encouraged to report incidents to the Better Business Bureau and the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center.
