LOS ANGELES, CA — A San Fernando Valley street was shut down Tuesday afternoon after a man threatened to jump from the elevated 5 Freeway in the area.
Authorities first responded to the area of Tuxford Street and San Fernando Road in Sun Valley just before 2 p.m. following a report of a man who was treating to jump from an overpass in the area, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The 5 Freeway is elevated over Tuxford Street in that area.
Authorities shut down Tuxford Street between Telfair Avenue and San Fernando Road in response to the situation, according to the LAFD.
Additionally, police activity was blocking the nearby Tuxford Street on-ramp to the southbound 5 Freeway as of 3 p.m., according to a Sigalert.
As of 3:07 p.m., the person was taken into custody by CHP officers and taken to a hospital for evaluation.
LAFD spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton said a CHP officer was also taken to a hospital for unspecified injuries.
Traffic was backed up in the area, including on the southbound 5 and northbound 170 freeways.
