Scientists warn that even modest baseline sea level increases can sharply boost flood risk when combined with high tides, big swells or storms, especially on recently eroded beaches and low-lying neighborhoods.

CA About To Go Petal To The Medal On Speed Cameras: When And Where 185 Cameras Go Live (patch.com) β Los Angeles drivers are about to see 125 new speed cameras switched on starting Oct. 26, forming the largest network in California under a statewide pilot program. AB 1679 streamlines temporary permits so pop-up businesses can operate in vacant commercial spaces for up to 120 days, giving local entrepreneurs a lower-risk way to test concepts and build customers.

Threat Of Sanitation Strike In LA County Looms As Worker Contracts Expire, Union Says (patch.com) β Los Angeles residents could see trash collection disrupted as contracts for nearly 4,000 Southern California sanitation workers, including many serving LA County, have expired without new agreements. Teamsters Local 396 says negotiations with major haulers like Republic Services and Athens Services continue, but the lapse raises the real possibility of a strike that could affect service across Los Angeles and neighboring counties.
