Announcing the UMFF 2026 Panels!

The Universe Multicultural Film Festival is back for 2026, and with it, seven panels geared towards promoting growth and connection for emerging filmmakers.

At its core, the Universe Multicultural Film Festival (UMFF) is dedicated to telling diverse stories that amplify filmmakers from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and countries around the world. Each year, UMFF brings together global storytellers for one inspiring weekend in June to celebrate their creative accomplishments while also fostering growth through a series of thoughtfully curated panels. These panels are designed not just to inform, but to actively support and encourage emerging filmmakers as they navigate the industry, while also creating a valuable space to network and connect with other filmmakers.

This year’s festival will take place June 5–7 in Palos Verdes and North Hollywood, offering attendees the chance to engage with industry professionals, gain practical insights, and build meaningful connections.

The 2026 panel lineup spans every stage of the filmmaking process, each one featuring experienced professionals ready to share their expertise.

Pitch and Catch creates a rare opportunity for direct, face-to-face engagement between filmmakers and industry decision-makers. Participants will present their projects in 10-minute sessions to a room of investors, producers, and distributors, complete with project summaries and contact information. The panel will feature Sundance and Emmy Award–winning producers, Grammy and Emmy-recognized entertainment attorneys, and strategic advisors, experts who know exactly what it takes to pitch successfully and bring projects to life.

Technology in Post-Production explores how rapidly evolving digital tools are reshaping filmmaking. This panel tackles the ethics of innovation in editing and post-production, covering a wide range of areas including visual effects and CGI, coloring, foley, and the growing role of artificial intelligence. Featuring award-winning colorists, VFX editors, foley artists, and AI creators who have worked with major companies like Lionsgate, Netflix, and Blumhouse, the discussion promises a nuanced look at the future of the craft.

Multicultural Screenplay focuses on writing for today’s global market. Topics include crafting concise and compelling scripts, writing effective query letters, preparing for pitch meetings, building pitch decks, and navigating opportunities in both film and television. Panelists, including produced and optioned screenwriters and experienced producers and directors, will share what it takes to create scripts that not only resonate, but sell.

Working with Asian Film highlights the rapidly growing influence of Asian cinema, with film revenues in the region increasing significantly over the past decade. As more opportunities emerge for Western creatives to collaborate on international projects, this panel addresses both the possibilities and the challenges. Attendees will hear from returning panelists and influential filmmakers who have successfully bridged Asian and American film industries, offering insight into cultural nuances, industry myths, and best practices for collaboration.

Produce Global Film dives into the practical realities of bringing a project to life. Topics include producing zero-budget films, finding the right script, securing funding, understanding distribution platforms like streaming services, navigating tax credits, and ultimately making a profit. Featuring Emmy and BAFTA Award–winning directors and producers, as well as members of the Producers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America, this panel provides a comprehensive guide to production at every level.

The Distribution Mixer tackles one of the most complex aspects of filmmaking today. With no single model for releasing a film, this discussion focuses on what strategies are working, how to market effectively, and how filmmakers can position themselves for success. This panel also offers a unique opportunity to network directly with our panelists and pitch your film to industry professionals. Featuring distributors specializing in international sales alongside producers who have successfully secured distribution for independent films, the mixer provides actionable insights and meaningful connections.

Audition for Multicultural Movies examines the evolving landscape of casting in an era dominated by streaming platforms and global audiences. The panel will cover how actors can deliver impactful auditions, stand out in Hollywood, and adapt to changes in casting practices. With both actors and casting directors in attendance, including professionals who have worked with major networks like Nickelodeon, CBS, and Netflix, this conversation offers valuable perspective from both sides of the audition room.
