Artisan Pickle Biz Joins LA Original Farmers Market Line-Up

Canada-based Kaylin & Hobbs launched its first U.S. shop in Los Angeles, selling NYC-deli-style pickles with a twist of eclectic flavors.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Good news, pickle connoisseurs!

Packing pickling skills and a medley of flavors, Vancouver-based Kaylin & Hobbs opened its first U.S. shop this weekend at The Original Farmers Market at Third and Fairfax in Los Angeles.

The company was founded in Canada a few years ago by Scott Kaylin, a born-and-bred New Yorker, and Chris Hobbs, a Toronto native, after the pair relocated to Vancouver and struggled to find pucker-worthy, New York-style pickles on the West Coast.

The Kaylin & Hobbs pickles, which come in such varieties as Horseradish, Honey Mustard and good, old-fashioned Kosher Dill, are sold straight from pails — old-school and deli-style — and patrons can sample before they buy. Other flavors, vinegar-brined or fermented, include: Mustard; Jalapeño; Spicy Dill; Bread n’ Butter; and Full Sour, which are fermented in small batches and often sell out quickly.

“It is truly an honor to have the opportunity to open our first USA location in the iconic Original Farmers Market," the business' founders said. "The initial reception we've received from both the market and all the amazing pickle lovers in Los Angeles is beyond amazing.”

The first Kaylin & Hobbs store opened in 2017 at the Granville Island Public Market in Vancouver, followed in 2018 by an outpost at Lonsdale Quay Market. The product also is distributed to grocers, breweries and restaurants across Canada.

There is no online store as the product only lasts up to 30 hours out of the fridge (three to four months in the fridge). So hit up The Original Farmers Market shop to satisfy your pickle hankering.

This new Los Angeles location, 6333 W. 3rd St., is open market hours: Mondays through Fridays - 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturdays - 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sundays - 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
