Relay is a 380 page novel about a high school track relay team pursuing their ultimate goal. When tragedy strikes, the team bands together to capture a dream that they've all had since childhood. Knowing that this dream is within their grasp, they realize that they must come together as one to achieve the final victory. Along the way, they face personal challenges which threaten to derail their dreams - and their lives.
During a recent interview, Charles discussed his process of writing Relay. "I truly enjoyed writing Relay," states Chatmon, “It is my first novel, and I feel it is a story worth reading; consisting of prominent themes of friendship, dedication, heartbreak and victory. There are a few surprises and twists within the book, so I hope that the readers will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!" Chatmon continued, "My reason for writing this novel is that I started it thirty years ago, and then set it aside for many years - it was time to complete it. When the pandemic hit and we all stayed at home, I felt it was the right time to complete this book. It's been a joy for me to write."
Author Charles Chatmon shared his plans moving forward, which include completing a science fiction anthology titled, Strange Tales of Science Fiction, stating, “The title is inspired from a local, Sci-Fi television show from many years ago. There are more than several Sci-Fi stories that I have written, but I haven’t had the chance to finish them..yet. I hope that my readers continue to enjoy the books I publish."
