Boy Dies In 4th-Story Fall At LA High School: Reports

LOS ANGELES, CA — A student at Benjamin Franklin High School died Wednesday after falling from a fourth-story building on campus, according to reports.

The fall was reported shortly before 1 p.m. at the Highland Park campus in the 800 block of Avenue 54.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded at 12:59 p.m. and transported a minor to a hospital, KTLA reported. Police later confirmed the student, a boy, had died, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Authorities did not release the student's name or age.

The circumstances surrounding the fall remain under investigation, though police said there was no evidence of foul play, NBC Los Angeles reported.

The incident prompted officials to place the campus on lockdown while police investigated, KTLA reported.

Principal Marine Davtyan told families in a message that the lockdown required all campus gates and doors to remain locked until law enforcement gave the school permission to reopen.

"The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff continues to be our top priority," Davtyan said in the message, according to KTLA.

No other injuries were reported.

LAPD, Los Angeles School Police and fire officials were investigating the incident, KTLA reported.
