Brush Fire Near 405 Freeway Prompts Evacuation Warnings, Closes Getty Center

LOS ANGELES, CA — A brush fire burning near the 405 Freeway and Getty Center Drive in the Sepulveda Pass prompted evacuation warnings Wednesday afternoon and forced the Getty Center to close.

The fire, dubbed the Getty Fire, was reported at 4:17 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

About 20 acres of brush has burned as of 5:45 p.m. as firefighters battled the flames, according to the LAFD.

No structures were immediately threatened, officials said.

Evacuation warnings were later issued for two evacuation zones that correspond to areas west of the 405 and north of Sunset Boulevard in the pass. People in those areas were urged to prepare to evacuate if conditions worsen and to monitor instructions from first responders.

The Getty Center closed Wednesday afternoon because of the fire.

Multiple water-dropping helicopters were sent to the Sepulveda Pass area to help fight the blaze.

All lanes of the 405 Freeway remained open as of 5:45 p.m., though a Sigalert warned drivers to expect major delays as a result of the fire. Traffic on the southbound side was backed up from the Sepulveda Boulevard to the Culver City area at that time.
