Brush Fire Scorches 1o Acres In San Pedro

LOS ANGELES, CA — A 10-acre brush fire broke out amid windy conditions in San Pedro Thursday afternoon.

With the help of airdrops, Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters held the blaze burning near 560 N. Western Ave. in San Pedro to 10 acres by 7:45 p.m. Thursday.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged in the blaze. Firefighters are set to remain on the scene throughout the night to mop up the remaining hot spots.

The blaze broke out shortly after 6 p.m. amid medium brush in rugged terrain within Peck Park. Air and ground firefighting crews responded to the scene.

"With 81 LAFD personnel assigned, the firefight will continue hand tools and hose lines against stubborn residual flames, that at this hour have thankfully caused no injury, no need for evacuation or structure damage," said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey.

The blaze is one of three brush fires Los Angeles firefighters battled Thursday evening. Several hot spots from a small brush fire in the Sepulveda Pass area flared up again Thursday evening after Los Angeles city firefighters extinguished the blaze, backing up rush-hour traffic on the San Diego (405) Freeway.

Los Angeles County Fire Department also responded to a two-acre brush fire burning in the area of 15501 E. Arrow Highway in Irwindale.
