CA Ranked Among Worst Places To Drive In U.S. (Like We Didn’t Know)

Driving is more expensive in California than anywhere else in the nation, and congestion and infrastructure are pretty bad, too.

CALIFORNIA — A new analysis of federal data suggests California has some of the very worst drivers in the country — something you may or may not agree with during your daily commute on the Golden State (5) Freeway.

The personal finance website MoneyGeek used data from the Federal Highway Administration, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Census Bureau, FBI and other sources to rank the states with the best and worst driving experiences. The data was sorted into five categories: congestion, costs (including gas and insurance), infrastructure, safety, and weather.

By that measure, California is the second worst place in the country to get behind the wheel. To be fair, we’re slammed with the most expensive diving costs in the nation from our sky-high gas prices to our mandatory car insurance. We're also fighting the fourth-worst traffic congestion and the sixth-worst infrastructure in the nation. Only New Jersey was ranked worse thanks to its worst- in the nation congestion.
