Cal State LA continues to climb in Best Colleges rankings

'U.S. News & World Report' ranks Cal State LA at 21st among all private and public regional universities in the western United States.

Cal State LA continues to soar as one of the nation’s top regional universities in the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.

Cal State LA ranks 21st among all private and public regional universities in the western United States, rising three spots from the previous year, according to the 2024 rankings released this week.

During the past ten years, Cal State LA has jumped 75 spots among all private and public regional universities in the West.

Cal State LA ranks 9th among top public regional universities in the West. The university is once again listed among the Top Performers on Social Mobility and one of the Best Value Schools.

“Cal State LA’s continued ascent in the rankings reflects our commitment to our students’ success,” said Interim President Leroy M. Morishita. “Our dedicated faculty and staff play a central role in creating an environment where students thrive.”

U.S. News & World Report relies on key measurements to develop its rankings. These include graduation rates, financial resources, first-year retention rates, and student-faculty ratio, areas in which Cal State LA continues to achieve significant success.

This year, Cal State LA earned a spot in a ranking category for undergraduate psychology programs. The program in the College of Natural and Social Sciences was ranked among the top 20 in California.

The university also scored strong marks for its engineering, business, nursing, and education undergraduate programs.

The engineering program in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology is one of the top 5 in the nation among public, master’s awarding institutions, excluding military academies, the rankings show.

The business program in the College of Business and Economics is listed as one of the top 10 in California among public institutions.

Cal State LA was included in the category for undergraduate nursing programs. The program, which is housed in the Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing, was ranked among the top five in California.

U.S. News & World Report also recognized Cal State LA as one of the best regional universities for undergraduate teaching in the West. The university’s College of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

Additionally, Cal State LA was ranked 11th among the best regional universities in the West for undergraduate veterans and active-duty service members.
