Cal State LA’s nursing graduate program among the best in the nation
Cal State LA's Master of Science in Nursing program is ranked as one of the nation's best, according to the U.S. News & World Report.

Cal State LA’s Master of Science in Nursing program continues to be ranked among the best in the nation, according to the U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 edition of Best Graduate Schools.
This year’s publication ranked Cal State LA at no. 41, making it one of only two public universities in Los Angeles County included in the 2024 Best Nursing Schools: Master’s listing.
“This is the highest ranking we have ever had in the last 10 years I have been here at Cal State LA,” said Cinthya Sotelo, interim director of the university’s Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing. “We are honored to be selected again as one of the top graduate schools in the country and I am especially grateful for all the hard work that goes into making it all happen. Above all else, we are dedicated to student success and this recognition demonstrates how dedicated we all truly are.”

For more than two decades, U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked Cal State LA’s nursing graduate program among the top 10 programs in California.
The Master of Science in Nursing program offers a nursing education option and nurse-practitioner options in adult gerontology acute care, family, and family psychiatric/mental health.

Since fall 2012, Cal State LA has offered a joint Doctor of Nursing Practice program. The university is currently planning its own Doctor of Nursing Practice program that is set to begin in 2025.
The Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing, housed in the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services, comprises approximately 400 undergraduate nursing students, more than 175 graduate students, and five tenured professors and 11 tenure-track faculty members. The school is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
In the latest U.S. News & World Report listing, Cal State LA’s graduate programs in fine arts, public affairs, public health, rehabilitation counseling, and social work are also ranked among the top 100 in the nation.
The graduate school rankings are based on two types of data: expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research, and students. Detailed explanations of each ranking are available on the U.S. News website.
