The Houston Brothers and Chef Ray Garcia have partnered with James Beard Award–winning food writer Bill Esparza to present Taqueando After Dark — a two-night immersive taco food festival taking over the entire Level 8 universe.
For two consecutive nights only, Level 8 transforms into a roaming celebration of tacos and street food culture across Golden Hour, Qué Bárbaro, Lucky Mizu, Mr. Wanderlust, Maison Kasai, Brown Sheep, Mother of Pearl, and Sinners y Santos. Inspired by the streets of Mexico, guests journey room to room through a rare lineup of acclaimed chefs and legendary street vendors from across Mexico and Los Angeles, including talent from Michelin-recognized kitchens, each personally preparing the signature dishes that built their reputations. Visit the Shirley Temple Education Studio on the Lower Level (LL1) for a Foley Art workshop inspired by a same-day, accessible screening of <a href="https://www.academymuseum.org/programs/detail/zootopia-019dda3b-5b6c-ff0e-36d9-e452ba39a26f" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Zootopia</a> (2016).
Inspired by that movie and others from this summer's <a href="https://www.academymuseum.org/en/programs/series/family-matinees" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Family Matinees</a> series, this workshop introduces the basics of Foley art in our sound mixing rooms. Our Education team introduces an... array of objects to re-create the same kinds of sounds we hear in mystery capers.
In addition to the Calm Mornings program, we encourage visitors to attend our accessible, open-caption screening of <a href="https://www.academymuseum.org/programs/detail/zootopia-019dda3b-5b6c-ff0e-36d9-e452ba39a26f" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Zootopia</a> at 11am in the Ted Mann Theater. A separate admission ticket is required.
The Shirley Temple Education Studio will remain open during the screening as a space for relaxation and artmaking until 1pm.

Artist Liam Woods will lead a hands-on photography workshop exploring queer portraiture as a practice of trust, vulnerability, and self-representation. Drawing from their approach to photographing Queer Black and Brown communities, Woods will guide participants through techniques for creating portraits that celebrate authenticity, care, and connection.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own digital or film camera and will take part in a series of portrait-making exercises before gathering to share and discuss their images as a group.
