Bank robber Jake Foley’s prison escape is complicated by an inconvenient encounter with U.S. marshal Karen Sisco, and an unexpected attraction between them. Making his first major studio film, director Steven Soderbergh, working with an Oscar nominated screenplay by Scott Frank, brings the world of master crime novelist Elmore Leonard to the screen in a dazzling combination of old-fashioned Hollywood glamour and contemporary grit. The film was also nominated for its editing, by the accomplished Anne V. Coates (Lawrence of Arabia, 1962), who employs intercutting, flashbacks, and freeze frames to enhance the swooningly romantic chemistry of stars George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez.
