This month's Calm Mornings program allows special access to the exhibition Studio Ghibli’s PONYO and includes a workshop exploring the fascinating tools behind Foley art. ASL interpretation is provided.
9–10am | Early gallery access
Explore the galleries in the exhibition Studio Ghibli’s PONYO on Level 2 (L2). Sound and lighting adjustments will provide a more sensory-friendly experience.
10am–1pm | Family workshop
Visit the Shirley Temple Education Studio on the Lower Level (LL1) for a Foley Art workshop inspired by a same-day, accessible screening of Zootopia (2016).
Inspired by that movie and others from this summer's Family Matinees series, this workshop introduces the basics of Foley art in our sound mixing rooms. Our Education team introduces an... array of objects to re-create the same kinds of sounds we hear in mystery capers.
In addition to the Calm Mornings program, we encourage visitors to attend our accessible, open-caption screening of Zootopia at 11am in the Ted Mann Theater. A separate admission ticket is required.
The Shirley Temple Education Studio will remain open during the screening as a space for relaxation and artmaking until 1pm.
Calm Mornings are free with the purchase of general admission. Admission for youth 17 and under is always free.
