Captain Voyeur
A restless computer technician grows obsessed with a female coworker and secretly spies on her, treating his voyeurism like the duties of a masked superhero/villain. This short, made while John Carpenter was a film student at the University of Southern California, is rife with plot and filmmaking techniques he would later incorporate and improve upon in his slasher masterpiece Halloween (1978).

Dark Star
Intergalactic spacecraft Dark Star is on a mission to make the universe safer for humans by destroying planets deemed unsuitable. Can the crew of stoner astronauts complete their duties while dealing with a routinely malfunctioning ship, alien invaders and existential dread? What began as a 16mm short made with collaborator Dan O’Bannon (future screenwriter of Alien, 1979) while film students at the University of Southern California, was later expanded to feature length for theatrical distribution. Directed, co-written, produced and scored by John Carpenter in his feature film debut, Dark Star was not a big success on its initial limited release, but was later re-released after the successes of Halloween (1978) and Alien and developed a... cult following through home video versions.
