Park Hae-il stars in Park Chan-wook’s Hitchcockian neo-noir thriller as Hae-joon, a detective whose obsessions over his cases interfere with his daily life. A man’s body is found at the foot of a cliff after what seems to be an accident, until the detective encounters Seo-rae (Tang Wei), the wife of the deceased. From there, Hae-joon falls into a spiral of dichotomy, struggling between irresistible infatuation and reasonable suspicion against her as a murder suspect. The chemistry between Park and Tang generates a gentle breeze of grounding emotional force, tugging the audience into enigmatic spaces where reality and dreams merge, and the only consistent language is love. Park’s portrayal of Hae-joon is executed in powerful ambiguity, harmonizing beautifully with the director’s cinematic language.
