Even in our sunset years, there is still time enough for love. Open
Fist Theatre Company presents Shakespeare’s eternal
tale of lovers caught between their families and their love—with a
new twist. What happens when Romeo and Juliet fall in love at 75
instead of 14? In this new production, the Bard’s language remains
intact, but Shakespeare’s Verona has been transformed into Verona
Village, a South Florida retirement community for active seniors.
There, star-crossed lovers Romeo and Juliet must navigate romance,
family interference and social expectations later in life —
revealing how Shakespeare’s words resonate differently when spoken
by older adults. Open Fist @ Atwater Village
