Chemical Spill Forces LAPD Evacuation

Two officers were hospitalized due to a chemical spill at the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Station Friday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Police Department's Central Station was under partial evacuation orders after a chemical spill sent two officers to the hospital.

Fire Department hazardous materials crews were sent to the LAPD station at 251 E. Sixth St. in downtown Los Angeles shortly after 9 a.m. Friday to investigate the chemical spill. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported about 11:45 a.m. that there was "no significant hazard present."

One officer suffered respiratory irritation and had to be hospitalized, a member of the department's hazmat team was also hospitalized for possible dehydration and two others were examined at scene but declined hospital treatment.

The building was being partially evacuated as a precaution.
