Driver Killed In Wrong-Way Head-On Crash On 605 Freeway

A sedan collided with a truck, ejecting the driver and prompting a SigAlert on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway Saturday night.

CERRITOS, CA — A wrong-way driver was killed in a crash on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway Saturday night in Cerritos, triggering a SigAlert, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to the CHP, the driver of a black sedan heading northbound on the southbound side of the freeway slammed head-on into a silver pickup truck. The wrong-way driver was ejected "through the windshield," according to the CHP. hE died at the scene.

The crash was reported shortly before 6:30 p.m. on the southbound 605 Freeway just north of Alondra Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities did not report on the status of the second driver.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 6:42 p.m. shutting down southbound lanes 4 and 5 and the Alondra off-ramp. The SigAlert was canceled at 9:28 p.m.
