Driver Makes U-Turn On 605 Freeway, Killing 2: Report
The fatal crash at the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway and South Street, shut down the soutbound lanes of the freeway for hours Friday.
CERRITOS, CA — A wrong-way driver caused a fiery crash on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway Friday morning, killing themself and another driver and closing down the freeway for hours. The victim, a 38-year-old woman, died at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred near South Street just before 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to Officer Elizabeth Kravig of the California Highway Patrol. Multiple vehicles were involved in the crash, caused when a driver made a sudden U-turn on the freeway, slamming head-on into the woman driving southbound, according to the CHP and CBS 2.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene., and it was not immediately known if there were other injuries.

All southbound lanes of the free remained closed for several hours as authorities investigated the cause of the crash.
