Driver Plunges Over 100 Feet Off Mulholland Drive Cliff

A motorist drove off Mulholland Drive and over a cliff Wednesday morning.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A driver was seriously injured Wednesday morning when her car plunged over 100 feet over a cliff off Mulholland Drive.

The crash was reported at around 7:20 a.m. on Mulholland Drive, about 1 mile west of Laurel Canyon Boulevard. Firefighters responded to rescue the woman from her vehicle, which had plunged 100 to 150 feet over a cliff, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Crews lowered a paramedic from a helicopter to assess the woman, who was later hoisted into the helicopter.

She was airlifted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after 8 a.m. Though she was described as in serious condition, she was breathing on her own.

Aerial footage aired by CBS Los Angeles showed the woman being raised into the air and severe damage to a guardrail along Mulholland Drive.

Authorities said the crash caused a major traffic backup and urged motorists to seek alternate routes.
