FBI Agents Search LA City Councilman Jose Huizar's Office

An FBI spokeswoman said the no arrests were planned as a result of the searches.

LOS ANGELES, CA – More than a dozen FBI agents entered the Los Angeles City Hall office of Councilman Jose Huizar Wednesday and were seen carrying boxes out after serving a search warrant.

Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the FBI's Los Angeles office, said the affidavit supporting the warrant is under seal, and the office was prohibited from commenting on the nature of the investigation.

Eimiller would not confirm which City Hall office was being searched, although there were agents moving in and out of Huizar's office, but did say that multiple locations were being searched, including a private residence on Britannia Street in Boyle Heights, which Huizar and his wife have both listed as their home address with the State Bar of California.

Stephen Kaufman, an attorney for Huizar, told City News Service that he was monitoring the situation but had no further comment at this time.

Huizar has been under fire as multiple aides have accused him of misconduct, including misusing staffers for personal errands and retaliating against them over an alleged affair. He's strongly denied the allegations.

The councilman was elected to the Los Angeles City Council in 2005. Although he faces term limits in two years, he's working to elect his wife Richelle Huizar to his seat in 2020. His district covers central Downtown Los Angeles, as well as Boyle Heights, El Sereno, Hermon, Monterey Hills, Highland Park, Eagle Rock and Glassell Park.
