📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
- Stay out of the water. Some 24,000 gallons of raw sewage found their way into the ocean on Wednesday. This time, the poo has also contaminated sand. Several beaches are closed, including Venice City Beach, a half mile north of the Marina. Other beaches are open, but warnings are in place. Officials pinpointed that this spill occurred when a blocked main line caused sewage to overflow into the storm drain at Admiralty and Palawan ways. (KTLA)
- The 6th Street homeless encampment and the Los Angeles Department of Sanitation have reached an impasse. Located near Fairfax Avenue, the department cleaned up the area last week on Thursday. On Tuesday, officials returned and found “10 tents and large amounts of trash.” And while City Councilwoman Katy Young Yaroslavsky says she’s working on it, the department can't do anything if the tents or possessions don’t block pedestrians’ right of way. (Beverly Press)
- Toward the end of last year, we talked about Erewhon at 7660 Beverly Boulevard, which has the dubious distinction of being among the country’s most expensive grocery stores. However, on Thursday, we learned that it might not be about the $8 avocados after all. It turns out, Erewhon is actually a hook-up spot. Insiders say that the line to ask a potential mate is, “How’s the soup?” And, if they’re interested in you, the answer is “it’s hot.” Now you know. (Patch, L.A. Magazine)
- Have you had lunch at Broken Mouth, located at 718 South Los Angeles Street, yet? If not, you’re behind the times. Wednesday’s release of the Yelp 100 lists it as the top eatery, bar none. While Yelp's not saying if it’s the meat jun they loved or any of the other Korean fare, you certainly want to stop by. (Yelp)
- Hudson House at 9255 West Sunset Boulevard will open on Monday. It’s the perfect place for guests to enjoy an open raw bar, salads and a traditional Nantucket chowder. Of course, you can also get the wood-plank salmon that's everyone's favorite. With respect to the interior, the restaurant channels its East Coast roots with “heavy dark wood accents, plaids, and leather booths.” (Eater Los Angeles)
