FreeRent LA Gala Puts Housing Security in the Spotlight

Housing stability took the spotlight in Beverly Hills on Sept. 27 as FreeRent LA hosted its inaugural Wings of Gratitude gala at the Waldorf Astoria.

The elegant evening brought together celebrities, athletes, community leaders, and advocates for a common cause: supporting working families facing housing insecurity.

The night marked the official Los Angeles debut of FreeRent, a national nonprofit dedicated to providing rental assistance and wraparound services to families at risk of losing their homes.

FreeRent has already made a powerful impact in Atlanta, where more than 100 families have transitioned from crisis to financial independence. The expansion into Los Angeles reflects the urgency of the city’s housing crisis and the organization’s belief that stable housing is the foundation for long-term success.

Guests were welcomed with curated cocktails, gourmet chef stations, and live entertainment, but the heart of the evening was the mission.

“When a family no longer fears eviction, they can focus on careers, education, and their future,” leaders reminded attendees. FreeRent LA isn’t just about keeping a roof overhead—it’s about breaking cycles of instability and creating pathways toward generational wealth.

The gala’s crowd blended Hollywood sparkle with civic leadership. FreeRent LA board members Trixy Castro, CJ Russell, Dominique Wilkins, Jedidia Wilkins, Dr. Jacob Rastegar, and Jasmine Rastegar were joined by influential supporters and high-profile guests.

Among those guests were actress and philanthropist Holly Robinson Peete, The Young & The Restless's Kate Linder, Patrika Darbo, MMA fighter Bear Fiorda, musician Max Ehrich, and actors Alice Amter and Adam Tsekhman. The roster of attendees helped amplify the message that housing insecurity is a community-wide concern requiring collective action.

Throughout the evening, stories of impact and resilience took center stage, underscoring the real reason behind the glittering celebration.

Families who have benefited from FreeRent programs often describe the relief of avoiding eviction as life-changing, not only sparing them from homelessness but also providing the stability to pursue better opportunities.

The organization’s model combines short-term rental assistance with “wraparound services” such as financial coaching and community resources, ensuring families have both immediate relief and long-term tools for success.

“Too often, working families are one unexpected bill away from losing their homes,” one board member noted during the program. “FreeRent LA exists to bridge that gap and give families the chance to stand on their own again.”

A spirited live auction added an element of fun, offering luxury items and experiences such as a private jet getaway to Cabo San Lucas, fine jewelry, exclusive sports tickets, and a private dinner prepared by master chefs.

Guests also vied for wellness packages, curated fashion experiences, and luxury hotel stays. The fast-paced bidding generated critical funds while keeping the room energized, and a raffle for a diamond tennis bracelet capped the evening with a touch of sparkle.

Yet the true success of Wings of Gratitude wasn’t measured in auction paddles raised but in awareness built.
