Garcetti And Solis So Speak At Democratic Convention Tonight

LOS ANGELES, CA — County Supervisor Hilda Solis and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti are among the scheduled speakers at Wednesday evening's virtual Democratic National Convention, on a night that'll be highlighted by former President Barack Obama and the formal nomination of Sen. Kamala Harris for vice president.

The Wednesday night theme of the convention is "A More Perfect Union," and it will include appearances by a host of Democratic luminaries, including former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

The night will also have a Hollywood feel, with appearances by actresses Kerry Washington and Mariska Hargitay, and performances by Billie Eilish, Dominican-American singer-songwriter Prince Royce and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson.

Solis and Garcetti are both set to appear during a segment of the evening subtitled, "A More Perfect Economy." Solis, former U.S. secretary of labor, will begin the segment, which will also feature a conversation between presidential hopeful Joe Biden and union workers.

Garcetti will take part in an "America Recovering" discussion, in which he, Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown and Iowa Rep. Cindy Axne will "talk to small business owners in their communities about how they're struggling in Donald Trump's economy."

Garcetti is a national co-chair of Biden's election campaign.

Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia appeared during the convention Tuesday night, speaking for about 20 seconds during a roughly 13-minute recorded keynote address. Garcia was among three LGBTQ individuals giving the keynote speech. The others were Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta and Georgia state Rep. Sam Park.

No openly LGBTQ person had given a keynote speech at a Democratic National Convention before.
