Gelson's To Open New Small-Format Store In Toluca Lake

TOLUCA LAKE, CA — Local supermarket chain Gelson's on Wednesday will celebrate the grand opening of its newest location, on Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake.

The store, located inside a new mixed-use development at the corner of Riverside Drive and Mariota Avenue, is a "neighborhood market" location. At 9,672 square feet, the store has many of the amenities of larger Gelson's locations but with a format designed for quick shopping, according to the company.

"Toluca Lake reflects the evolution of our stores and embracing the small format stores being scalable for future growth," a Gelson's representative told Patch in an email.

The store will include a Gelson's Kitchen for take-home meals, along with a soup and salad bar, self-serve poké station, a pizza and Roman-style pinsa counter, full-service coffee bar, full-service Thrifty Ice Cream counter and a wine cellar.

Gelson's is celebrating the location's grand opening beginning at 8 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony in partnership with the Toluca Lake Chamber of Commerce, followed by performances from the Toluca Lake Elementary School band and cheerleaders.

The store officially opens at 9 a.m.; the first 100 guests in line will receive sway bags.

The celebration will continue with a block party featuring sampling, giveaways, complimentary Thrifty Ice Cream, coffee provided by Melissa’s Produce, and in-store tastings throughout the day and into the evening.

Gelson’s will also present donations to three local organizations: the Garry Marshall Theatre, Pawsitive Beginnings LA and Toluca Lake Elementary School.

The store will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Off-street parking is available behind the store. Delivery will be available through DoorDash and Instacart.
