Getty Fire Evacuations And Road Closures

More than 10,000 people were under evacuation, but as of noon, fire officials began lifting some evacuations, allowing residents home.

LOS ANGELES, CA — More than 10,000 people were evacuated and the Southbound San Diego (405) Freeway was shut down Monday morning as the Getty Fire quickly scorched more than 600 acres.

As of noon Monday, mandatory evacuation orders were lifted in the area between Sunset Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, from Temescal Canyon Road to Chautauqua Boulevard.

The California Highway Patrol shutdown the 405 Freeway southbound offramps at Skirball Center Drive, Sepulveda Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, Getty Center Drive and Mulholland Drive. As of 9 a.m. the Southbound lanes of the freeway were shut down from the 101 Freeway to Sunset Boulevard. Stretches of Sepulveda Boulevard was also shut down alongside the freeway.

The California Highway Patrol warned residents to prepare for a possible closure fo Pacific Coast Highway.

More than 10,000 people were forced to flee their homes Monday morning as the fire raced westward. Police and fire officials had issued a mandatory evacuation from Mulholland Drive, east to the 405, south to Sunset Boulevard and as far west as Temescal Canyon Road.

The Los Angeles Fire Department warned Residents to be prepared to evacuate beyond Temescal Canyon.
