🦃 Thanksgiving Poll!
Thanksgiving is on November 24th. How do you celebrate? So far, 45.5% celebrate a big meal as a family tradition, while 22.7% don’t celebrate and treat it like any other day. In a smaller group, 4.5% don’t celebrate because they feel it glorifies the conquest of Native Americans; however, 27.3% choose to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving out of gratitude.
📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:
1) There was a vehicle accident with fatalities on the “23100 block of West Mulholland Drive at Valmar Road.” The crash happened Tuesday evening at 9 p.m. We learned on Wednesday that “the driver who survived a fiery crash that killed two people in Woodland Hills . . . is suspected of driving under the influence.” The motorist is a man in his 20s. (KTLA)
2) A female student was violently attacked by a classmate at the Granada Hills Charter School on Monday. “According to students, the assailant beat his victim so badly that most of her teeth fell out.” The school did not reveal any detailed information to parents but did advise that “social workers would be stopping by to talk to students.” Members of the school police said there was an arrest on Tuesday. (CBS)
3) Charter Spectrum reportedly charges dissimilar rates for its Internet service in Sylmar. We learned on Wednesday that residents in the poorer areas of the neighborhood paid more. Residents in the low-poverty area paid $30 while those in the high-poverty area paid $70 per month. “The two neighborhoods are a mile away from one another.” (LAist)
4) Voters skittish about using ballot drop boxes have another reason to vote in person. On Tuesday, a Woodland Hills voter found the “keys to (a) ballot drop box in the locks.” They called it in, but nobody picked them up. Finally, “the registrar's office asked the voter to take the keys out and bring them into the library.” (Street People of Los Angeles)
5) Great White, the Aussie breakfast place everyone loves, is coming to 8917 Melrose on November 11! It features the telltale pink exterior of the brand and joins the Venice and Larchmont locales. Dishes you can enjoy include “burrata with winter citrus, pistachio, and smoked oil; chicken shawarma with charred cauliflower and pickled raisins, garlic yogurt, and pita bread; and wild arugula pesto pasta with whipped goat cheese and tomato chili jam.” (Eater Los Angeles)
