Grenade Prompts 405 Ramp Closure Near LAX

A grenade was discovered on a road near LAX Friday morning, according to a report.

LOS ANGELES, CA — An entrance ramp to the 405 Freeway near the Los Angeles International Airport was closed Friday morning after the discovery of a grenade, according to authorities.

The California Highway Patrol shut down the on-ramp from Century Boulevard to the northbound side of the freeway and the Century Boulevard collector road, an officer said.

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department bomb squad responded along with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The ramp is located about a half mile from the airport's southwestern border and is close to two runways.

The nature of the item was not disclosed, but it was recovered and rendered safe, with the bomb squad clearing the scene by 11:45 a.m., according to a fire department dispatcher.

All lanes were reopened by noon, according to the CHP.
