Hard Rock Tejon Bets $600 Million on Winning Big in the Central Valley

A new era of entertainment is taking shape in California’s Central Valley.

Hard Rock International, in partnership with the Tejon Indian Tribe, has announced that the long-anticipated Hard Rock Casino Tejon will officially open its doors on Nov. 13.

The $600 million, full-scale casino and resort will be the first of its kind in Kern County, bringing a globally recognized brand and a significant economic boost to the region.

Located less than 15 miles south of Bakersfield on Tejon Indian Tribal land, the new property sits at the base of the historic Grapevine Mountain Pass, where the San Joaquin Valley meets the southern California corridor. The destination is positioned to serve both Central Valley and Southern California visitors—and with its direct drive from Los Angeles, it will be the second-closest Class III casino to the city.

A Casino on a Las Vegas Scale

When it opens, Hard Rock Casino Tejon will rank among California’s largest casinos, reports SF Gate. The property’s 150,000-square-foot gaming floor puts it in the same league as MGM Grand, Bellagio, Aria, and Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, each of which spans just above that mark. In fact, Tejon’s gaming space will be roughly 20,000 square feet larger than Caesars Palace.

Inside, guests can expect more than 2,000 slot machines, over 50 live table games, and exclusive VIP rooms for blackjack and baccarat.

True to Hard Rock tradition, the casino will showcase a curated collection of music memorabilia, creating an immersive environment that celebrates iconic artists across generations.

Dining, Nightlife, and a Distinct Local Spirit

Beyond gaming, the property will showcase world-class dining and nightlife. Guests will find a Hard Rock Cafe, Deep Cut Steaks | Seafood, and YOUYU, an Asian-inspired noodle bar and restaurant, alongside Marketplace food hall offering street-inspired tacos, Southern comfort dishes, wood-fired Italian classics, and artisanal coffee and pastries. A Rock Shop will feature signature Hard Rock merchandise and collectibles.

A Boost for Kern County’s Economy

The privately funded development has already produced thousands of construction jobs and is projected to support 1,000 permanent positions once open. The Tejon Tribe and Hard Rock have also pledged infrastructure upgrades in the surrounding area at no cost to taxpayers, as well as long-term commitments to education, housing, and healthcare initiatives that will strengthen the regional community.

Phase II: The Resort Vision Expands

While the 2025 debut will launch the property’s first phase, the broader vision for Hard Rock Casino Tejon extends even further. A planned Phase II will include a 400-room Hard Rock Hotel, a 2,700-seat Hard Rock Live performance venue, and a resort-style pool and spa, along with additional dining destinations. Though no official date has been confirmed, reports suggest the second phase may not open until 2027 or later.

When complete, the expansion will transform Hard Rock Tejon from a casino into a full-scale resort—one capable of hosting major concerts, weekend getaways, and large-scale events. The addition of hotel accommodations and an entertainment venue is expected to make it a year-round attraction for guests from Los Angeles to Fresno.
