Harrison Ford Helps Rescue Crash Victim

Onscreen hero Harrison Ford played the Good Samaritan on Sunday when he helped rescue a woman injured in a rollover crash.

LOS ANGELES, CA — When you live in Southern California, mind-numbing traffic is your reality. But at least when you have a car accident here, there's a chance Harrison Ford might swoop in and carry you to safety.

That’s what happened to one woman whose car veered off the road and into a tree in Ventura County. The film star, best known for his roles as heroes Han Solo in "Star Wars" and Indiana Jones in "Raiders of the Lost Ark," was among several people who stopped at the scene of a rollover crash off of eastbound Highway 126 near Eighth Street on Sunday afternoon.

Ford was in the area with a friend when they heard the crash, senior officer Matt Alonzo of the Santa Paula police told the Ventura County Star.

"He acted as a good Samaritan, just like everybody else, and tried to help before emergency services arrived," Alonzo said.

The driver in the crash was treated for minor injuries, according to authorities.

A life-long pilot, Ford is no stranger to near-deadly crashes. Sunday’s accident happened near the Santa Paula Airport, and Ford has survived multiple plane crashes. The actor has fallen from the sky three times, most recently in 2015, when the World War II-era single-engine plane he was piloting lost power and crashed on a Venice golf course shortly after takeoff from Santa Monica Airport. He suffered broken bones and, while reprising his role as Han Solo in “The Force Awakens,” had to hide a limp.

Ford isn't the only onscreen hero to play one in real life. Other celebrities who've come to the rescue include Tom Cruise, who famously came to the rescue of crash victims on a Los Angeles freeway in 2006 and also in 1996, when he aided a hit-and-run victim and paid her emergency room bills. In 2012, Jennifer Lawrence came to the aid of a woman who collapsed outside her Santa Monica apartment.
