'Home Improvement' Star Arrested During LA County Traffic Stop: Reports

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA — Former "Home Improvement" star Jonathan Taylor Thomas was arrested early Monday after an incident that began with a traffic stop in Westlake Village, according to reports.

Thomas, 45, was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over by deputies as part of a DUI investigation, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told KTLA.

“The driver was being detained for DUI investigation. Sometime during the investigation, Mr. Taylor decided he would exit the vehicle. Deputies told him to sit back down in the vehicle. He was uncooperative with them, failed to follow orders and obstructed the investigation,” officials told People.

He was arrested on suspicion of obstruction and being drunk in public, KTLA reported.

Thomas was detained at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station jail at about 12:32 a.m. Monday and booked at 1:50 a.m., according to jail records cited by People. He was released about 34 hours later, the magazine reported.

The identity of the driver and whether that person was arrested have not been publicly disclosed.

No criminal charges had been filed against Thomas as of Wednesday afternoon. Prosecutors could still review the case and decide whether to file charges, People reported.

Thomas became a household name playing Randy Taylor, the middle son of Tim Allen's character on the ABC sitcom "Home Improvement," which ran from 1991 to 1999. He also voiced young Simba in Disney's 1994 animated film "The Lion King."

Thomas largely stepped away from acting in the early 2000s, though he later appeared several times on Allen's sitcom "Last Man Standing." His most recent acting credit was in 2015.

He made a rare public appearance in July in a photo posted by former "Home Improvement" costar Patricia Richardson that also included Taran Noah Smith, who played his younger brother on the series.
