Homeless Woman Dies In Front Of LAPD Headquarters

An officer found the 56-year-old woman on the ground and attempted to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A homeless woman died outside the Los Angeles Police Department's downtown headquarters Wednesday despite an officer's efforts to resuscitate her.

Authorities Thursday identified the woman as Laura Wright, 56. An autopsy will be performed to determine why she died. The officer spotted her at about 9 a.m. on the Second Street side of the property and gave her CPR until firefighters arrived.

However, she was pronounced dead at the scene, that runs along a grassy area serving as a non-fenced dog park ringed by several benches. Homeless people often congregate or attempt to shelter in the area.
