Inmate Convicted Of Carjacking Captured In VA After Walking Away From LA County Program

LOS ANGELES, CA — A 28-year-old incarcerated man who walked away from a Los Angeles County reentry program last month was captured Wednesday in Virginia, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

DeJohn W. Snell was apprehended at about Wednesday morning during a traffic stop by U.S. Marshals in Virginia based on leads shared by state corrections officials, authorities said.

Snell had been missing since Aug. 16, when he walked away from a Male Community Reentry Program in Los Angeles County.

He was booked into the Peninsula Regional Jail in Williamsburg, Virginia, on an escape warrant and is expected to be returned to California corrections custody and housed at a state prison, officials said.

His case will also be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for possible escape charges.

Snell was received from Los Angeles County on Sept. 30, 2025, and was serving a six-year sentence for carjacking and second-degree robbery, according to state officials.
