Jewish Community Foundation Of LA Awards $200K In Grants

Four organizations will receive $50,000 in response to the attack at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life Synagogue.

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles that it is awarding $200,000 in emergency grants to four initiatives in response to the attack at Pittsburgh's Tree of Life Synagogue, it was announced Monday.

The grants to the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles' Victims of Terror Fund, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles' Community Security Initiative, the Anti-Defamation League and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society will go toward aiding victims and survivors, ensuring community security, combating hate and assisting refugees, the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles said. Each organization will receive $50,000.

On Oct. 27, 11 people were slain inside The Tree Of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. The alleged killer, Robert Bowers, faces 11 counts of murder, as well as six counts of attempted murder for the six people who were wounded in the hate-crime attack.

"Together with millions of others in America and around the world, we at the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles mourn the loss of the 11 fellow Jews murdered at the Tree of Life Congregation in Pittsburgh," Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles President and CEO Marvin I. Schotland said. "Our Board of Trustees, believing positive action is the best response to this terrible and senseless tragedy, approved these emergency grants to organizations that will provide direct aid to victims' families, as well as to support causes working proactively to prevent such despicable and evil acts from occurring in the future."
