Threat Triggers LA Academy Middle School Lockdown
Los Angeles police officers and school police officials were on the scene assessing a potential threat at the South LA middle school.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A South Los Angeles middles school was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon as police investigate a report of a potential threat.
The Los Angeles School Police Department established a gate where parents can line up to collect their children as the lockdown slowly lifted. By 3:30 p.m., the Los Angeles School Police Department announced a modified dismissal set to be taking place at LA Academy Middle School.
"Students will be released onto 56th St between Paloma Ave & Avalon Blvd. #LASPD will remain on scene," the department announced.

"There was a verbal threat that was made," Los Angeles Police Department Officer Tony Im said shortly after 3 p.m. "They still need to do a thorough check of the campus."
As of 3 p.m., there were no reports of injuries, Im said.
