LA Church, Community Gathers Supplies, Food For Ukrainian Refugees

The Saints Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Church is hosting an event to aid Ukraine this weekend. What to know.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Some five months after Russia invaded the Ukraine, civilians were still scrambling to gather the necessary supplies for basic living. A Ukrainian church in Los Angeles plans to distribute food and medical supplies to refugees in need on Saturday, and they will be accepting contributions and donations.

The Saints Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Church will host an event to raise donations and collect supplies for refugees Saturday at 11:45 a.m. at 4051 Melrose Ave.

The church has partnered with Faith in Christ Ministry Los Angeles, Plast Ukrainian Scouting and members of the community to collect medical equipment, compact medical first aid kits and food for Ukrainian refugees in Los Angeles. Volunteers working daily have gathered more than 8,000 waterproof first aid kits for Ukrainian first responders, defenders and victims to use, according to a release from the the Saints Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

"After five months of war following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and indiscriminate bombing of civilians there is a severe shortage of medical supplies, shelter, and basic products to sustain life and health in Ukraine," church leaders wrote in a statement.

On Saturday, volunteers from Faith in Christ Ministry in Los Angeles will gather meals for Ukrainian refuges and volunteers and assist in making waterproof first aid kits to Ukrainian soldiers and first responders at the church for transmittal to Ukraine.
