LA Man Threatens To Kill Rep. Maxine Waters: Police

The San Pedro man left a voicemail "laced with expletives and epithets" and used the words "dead" & "kill," the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

LOS ANGELES, CA – A 44-year-old San Pedro man is scheduled to appear in court next month; he was charged for allegedly threatening to kill Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Los Angeles.

Anthony Scott Lloyd allegedly made the threat during a phone call to Waters' Capitol Hill office last month. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Lloyd called the office Oct. 22 and left a voicemail "laced with expletives and epithets" and used the words "dead" and "kill" a total of four times.

Lloyd was arrested Nov. 9 but later released on $20,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 7 on a single count of threatening a United States official. Prosecutors initially charged him Nov. 8, but he was indicted Friday by a federal grand jury.

The charge could land Lloyd in prison for up to 10 years, prosecutors said.

Waters became a target for right wing ire this year for her staunch opposition to President Trump and his agenda. Her suddenly high profile has turned her into a hero of the left while exposing her to vitriolic attacks on the right. Earlier this year, Bill O'Reilly critiqued her speech about patriotism by mocking her appearance. On "Fox and Friends," he claimed that he couldn't hear a word she was saying because of her "James Brown wig.
